Alkylglycerols(or AKGs): Also known as a alkoxylglycerols, glycerol ether lipids.

A vital component of our shark liver oil. AKGs have been shown to play a role in stimulation of white blood cell production, and as a result, are believed to be a general immune system stimulant, and strengthener.

AKGs occur naturally in small amounts in human breast milk, bone marrow, the liver, and the spleen, all of which are involved in the production of white blood cells.

AKGs play a key role in the biosynthesis of plasmalogens and PAF(platelet activating factor).

Amino acids: Molecules playing a central role both as building blocks of proteins and as intermediates in metabolism. Protein substances make up the muscles, tendons, organs, glands, nails, and hair. Growth, repair and maintenance of all cells are dependent upon them.

Antioxidants: A substance that inhibits oxidation or reactions promoted by oxygen or peroxides. Thought by some to counteract the deleterious effects of radiation by opposing the negative effects of free radicals.

Plasmalogens, Glutathione, Astaxanthin, Vitamin C and E as well as enzymes, such as SOD, are antioxidants.

Astaxanthin: A pigment that belongs to the family of carotenoids, included in crustacean and salmonids. It provides the red-orange color in these organisms. Its antioxidative properties have been reported to surpass those of Beta-Carotene and Vitamin E.

Free radicals: Unstable molecules containing one or more unpaired electrons that cause cellular damage (called oxidative stress) which accelerate chronic diseases as well as the aging process.

Free radicals are like robbers, which are deficient in energy, thus attacking and taking the energy from the other cells to satisfy themselves.

Free radicals are produced in excess by ionizing radiation, UV light, smoking, air pollution, inflammation, etc.

Glutathione (or GSH): A tripeptide (three amino-acids joined by peptide bonds) and an antioxidant preventing damage caused by free radicals.

Our Premium Oyster Powder is clinically proven to increase energy levels and offset symptoms of fatigue by enhancing the production of Glutathione in the body.

Marine Stewardship Council (MSC): A global organization working with fisheries, seafood companies, scientists, conservation groups and the public to promote the best environmental choice in seafood. The MSC’s fishery certification program and seafood ecolabel recognize and reward sustainable fishing.

Nutrilys Del Mar’s Alaskan Salmon Oil, Krill Oil and Astaxanthin-D3 in Salmon Oil are all MSC ecolabeled.

Oxidative stress: Oxidative stress represents an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen species (free radicals and peroxides) and a biological system’s facility to readily detoxify the reactives intermediates or to repare the resulting damage.

Oxidative stress damages all components of the cell, including proteins, lipids, and DNA thus, being involved in many diseases.

PAF(Platelet activating factor): An important lipid mediator of inflammation.

Alkylglycerols play a key role in the biosynthesis of lyso-PAF (precursor) and PAF.

Phospholipids: A class of lipids that are a major component of all cell membranes, as they can form lipid bilayers.

Lecithin (phosphatidylcholine), phosphatidylserine, sphingomyelin, and plasmalogens are phospholipids.

Plasmalogens: A type of ether-phospholipid found in the nervous, immune, and cardiovascular system.

Plasmalogens are antioxidants defending cell membranes and lipoproteins from oxidative damage. They are believed to protect from neurodegenerative diseases since low plasmalogen concentration is associated with elevated oxidative stress in Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. " Plasmalogens as a marker of elevated systemic oxidative stress in Parkinson's disease". Dragonas C., et al., Clin.Chem.Lab.Med. 2009, vol.47,7

Alkylglycerols found in our unique Shark Liver Oil formula play a key role in the biosynthesis of plasmalogens.

Super Oxide Dismutase (or SOD): A class of enzymes playing an important role in antioxidant defense.

Several forms of SOD exist: they are proteins cofactored with copper and zinc, or manganese, iron or nickel.

Our Premium Oyster Powder is very rich in minerals and trace elements (metalloids) and helps increase the production of SOD in the body.
